Profile of Comedian Dave ChappellDavid, ?Dave?, Chappell was born in Washington, D.C., on August 24, 1973. Chappell is known as a comedian, satirist, and actor. His interest in comedy began at an early age. When he was only fourteen years old, he performed a stand up comedy routine aHe graduated from the Duke Ellington School of Performing Arts which is a famous performing arts high school. Shortly after graduation, he landed rolls in two movies. He played Achoo in ?Robin Hood, Men in Tights? and also had a role in ?Undercover Blues.? He was only 19 years old at the time. He was offered the roll of Bubba in Tom Hank?s movie, ?Forrest Gump?, but turned it down. He was following the advice of fellow comedian Bill Cosby, and thought the roll was demeaning to Afro-Americans. He later said that he regretted this decision. The movie went on the win Best Picture of the Year Oscar. In 1995, he was cast for a small role in the very popular sitcom Home Improvement. He played an amateur video filmmaker. The single appearance was so well received that a new television series was des Dave Chappell reached stardom in 2003 with the debut of ?The Chappell Show? on Comedy Central. The show highlighted his comic talents with its biting parodies of American Culture including racial stereotypes. The show received a total of three Emmy nominations in its first two seasons. Chappell left the show midway through production of third season. He spent sometime out of the country. He later cited differences with network management on the direction the show was taking for his sudden departure. Recently, the episodes that had been filmed were aired as ?The Chappell Show, The Lost Episodes? and were released on DVD also. There had been talk about his return to the show, but he did not want the lost episodes released, and there is doubt that his differences with the network can be settled now. In the meantime, he does occasional tours and spends his time on his large estate located near a small town in Ohio. He is married and has two children. Dave Chappell walked away from a successful comedy show while it was in its prime, and it is doubtful that we have seen the last of him.
