Rescue a Pet today!

My first contact with pet rescue centers was when our cat Tom died, and we decided that the next in line for cat-in-chief should be from a shelter, not a pet store. Pet rescue shelters have got increasingly popular in recent years - there is no
thing like the feeling of giving a deserving pet a nice new home! Rescue Centers take in animals for later adoption to loving homes. Obviously, local centers have limited room and resources for pets that need rehoming, and far too many wonderful animals get put down as a result.

The Cats Protection League try to take up the slack in cases like this - picking up, cleaning and treating any illnesses in abandoned cats, then trying hard to rehome them. They never put a cat down! As a charity, they rely almost entirely on the goodwill of honest folk, and charitable contributions. Overheads are kept to a minimum, and as much of your donation as possible goes to the cats themselves. When we got Tyler, the sweet old lady who helped us must have been over 75 years, old, yet still was active in driving around, picking up and dropping off the kitties.

To adopt a cat from the Cats Protection League, you must satisfy them that you and the cat will be a good match. Tempe
rament, medical history and age are play a part when deciding if a cat is right for you and vice versa. A young, active cat, for example, may not be suitable for someone of advanced years.

Getting involved by adopting is one way to help the rescue process, but there are others. You can help rehabilitate a cat before someone else adopts it. You can help with pick ups and drop off in your local area. You can contribute financially. You can enter your own pet in the http://www.petmillions.com pet photo contest - part of your entry fee goes straight to charity, and you can also win up to £1,000,000! Choose from many charities you want to support including the CPL and WSPA, Born Free, PDSL and many more.

So that's about it - you can make a difference! And please, vote for Tyler at petmillions.com. His pet id is 3159 and voting is free. Thanks a million, cat lovers!

Andrea Whitely is the owner of Tyler, a cheeky chappy of a cat with a real head for heights. Tyler was a rescue cat, and as a result, Andrea now actively supports the Cats Protection League.
