It seems like whenever you turn on the news you hear about credit card fraud or see commercials that air advertisements for credit card security, etc. In fact, credit card fraud is at an epidemic stage in America.

While all of the major c

redit card companies put the latest security measures in place, they can only do so much on their end. There are many things that we can do as well to protect ourselves against credit card fraud.

1. Look over your credit card statement.

This may seem insignificant, but take a moment to review the charges on your statement. Were they all from you? You'll immediately know whether someone has gained access to your credit card or not. The best way to check your account summary is through the internet. Go online and keep updated.

2. Don't email credit information.

This is something we all know about, but it still happens. You may get an email from the third south bank asking you to verify your account information. Some people will actually do so, and then suffer the consequences as their bank account is cleaned out.

No credit card company is ever going to send you an email asking you to write out personal information and send

it back. It's a fraudulent scheme designed to dupe you out of your money. Always call you credit card company when in doubt.

3. Giving out your credit card to friends or family.

I sure hope you don't do this. You may mean well, but your credit card should always be in your possession. I see it time and again where the person who loaned out the card will get their next statement with outrageous charges made against it.

4. Always keep your credit cards put away.

Never leave your credit cards just lying around at home or the office. Keep them with you or put away in a safe place.

5. Shopping online.

Be careful when buying products over the internet with your credit card. Yes, it is very safe nowadays to do so, but you still must use precautions. Make sure the website is secure and has the padlock symbol.

These tips will help you in combating credit card fraud. Put them into use and protect yourself and your finances from becoming the next victim.
