You Have Diabetes-What's The Big Deal?

You know every time you think you are the only person in the universe with a particular type of problem or that something very unique has happened to you-reality sets in and you find out there are millions of others in your same boat.

Tha
t is the situation I was in when I got the news-the news of my diagnosis with diabetes. For months I was swimming in that river called DeNile. Looking back I am not sure if it was stupidity, ignorance or what but I didn't believe the diagnosis. Consequently I denied I had it.

And to make matters worse the symptoms for me didn't seem all that big of a deal. Okay so my blood sugar is high ?so what? I'm a little overweight-big deal. My blood pressure is a little on the high side-eh! My triglycerides are high but only because I am and always have been a snackaholic. Back then I am not sure anyone even knew what trans fats were.

So I swam along the river for maybe 15-18 months. I was mad too at my doctor that diagnosed me partially because he didn't know ?. about the disease, so how was he going to help me?

You know the funny thing about all the emotions I felt, not until I started research for this website did I realize there were millions before me
who felt the same way. You are not in this fight alone.

I started getting information and getting educated about diabetes and found out that the river came to an end. This, my friends, is serious stuff.

Next I went shopping for a doctor-not an easy task-but not impossible either. I guess I lucked out and found someone who had a son with type 1 diabetes-he's my guy!

He got on my case from the first meet and greet. WEIGHT, WEIGHT, WEIGHT-that was his mantra. High blood pressure-you're overweight; diabetic-you're overweight; cholesterol and triglycerides are too high-you're overweight. "Are you beginning to see a pattern here?" he would ask.

Get a good doc who knows diabetes and you are halfway home.

But the burden is on you to get control. Monitor your glucose, change your diet, lose weight, exercise-all the things you need to do to get control.

The BIG DEAL is if you don't get control you will lose this all important battle in your life and you don't want that to happen
