Physical Fitness Education as Part of School Curriculum

In todays fast pace life physical fitness is becoming necessary for the school going children. These fitness sessions contribute towards the growing importance of having a healthy and stress free life. Majority of the children live a hectic and stress
ed life accompanied with an unhygienic diet. This makes physical fitness their top priority not only at home but also in schools. But due to financial constraints most schools either cut down or stop the physical education sessions.

Children who learn proper physical fitness education are more likely to carry these lessons on into adult hood. In addition to basic fitness knowledge and information about sports and athletic events, physical education classes also serve as health instruction in many school districts.

Physical fitness is not only about playing games. In fact, health classes teach kids about the functioning of the human body, basic development, sexual education, and first aid training. It is the duty of the school to inform the next generation about these things. Without physical fitness education the child's overall quality of life cannot improve.

The President's Physical Fitness program is one of the classic aspects of any physica
l education class. Children receive a certificate of achievement after they complete a series of tasks set by a Presidential panel. It is a matter of pride to receive this certificate. It shows kids of all ages and skill levels they can accomplish a goal.

The lifestyle of the present generation of kids is such that the only means of exercise for them are the physical fitness exercises. The lives of children are steeped in comfort with either their parents dropping them in cars to schools or they go by bus or cab in contrast with the students in the past who used to either walk, or go by bicycle getting some exercise in turn. After spending hours sitting in the classrooms usually children spend their remaining time by playing video games, surfing Internet or watching television. So, these fitness sessions are a must for them.

It's your duty to raise your voice when you hear of plans to discontinue physical fitness education program in your child's school. Talk about it to the Parent and Teacher Association or at a meeting of the school board. Try to suggest ways and means and offer alternatives, but make sure that the school continues with the programs without alteration.

It has been a common myth among parents that physical education is nothing but a distraction for the child. The importance of this session should not be undermined, as this is the base to introduce the children to a healthy life.

Work to see the importance of these programs and encourage your child?s participation in them and other active extra curricular activities. Begin a fitness regimen with your child and strive to lead a healthy lifestyle. Remember, children learn from example and can easily pick up on your bad habits. Individuals who do not practice proper physical fitness or engage in unhealthy lifestyles can influence children into also adopting this way of life.
