Recent Employment Study Reveals Graduate Solutions And Problems In The United Kingdom

A recent jobs study by the renowned IRS Employment Review has revealed to graduate recruiters and university graduates a variety of details about the future job market in the United Kingdom. The most important aspect of the study was its study of how
graduate recruiting has met placement needs of businesses throughout the United Kingdom. According to the study, university output of qualified graduates is meeting the demands of industrial leaders throughout the region. Half of United Kingdom businesses surveyed over the past year wanted as many graduates as the previous year, showing a consistent job market for graduates. More promising for university students is the 30% of business that wants more graduate recruits than in previous years. However, one-sixth of United Kingdom companies are seeking fewer graduates, particularly in public sector jobs.

However, university output numbers are a far cry from actual job placement. Forty percent of companies in the United Kingdom cite problems in recruiting graduates for open positions. The issues are many for businesses across dozens of industries, including increased competition by graduates with advanced degrees and a need for higher standards to maintain professional excelle
nce. As well, the proven recruitment methods of national newspaper advertising and Internet job boards are showing decreased effectiveness with a more saturated United Kingdom media market. Graduate recruiters are beginning to move away from these simple but low impact recruiting methods and utilizing their own web sites to draw in graduates. Recruiting web sites offer graduates an easy way of finding open jobs and recruiters a method of connecting with skilled workers.

A separate jobs study by the National Council for Graduate Entrepreneurship offered more mixed signals for graduate recruiters throughout the United Kingdom. In a question about considerations that graduates are making upon leaving university, almost two thirds of United Kingdom graduates showed an interest in possibly starting their own business following graduation. While graduate recruiters may feel a bit of concern at this show of independence by university graduates, a look at their answers to their postgraduate intentions reveals a more realistic forecast for the near future. Almost sixty percent of graduates state that they will seek full time work following their graduation day while only four percent of graduates intend to start their own business. Overall, the job market seems to be relatively secure for university graduates while graduate recruiters and companies need to find creative solutions to their graduate placement problems.
