Turn Back Time with Aging Skin Care

A lot of people these days are interested in aging skin care. This is because there are more aging and elderly people alive today than there has ever been before. The Baby Boom generation is now heading into retirement, and people are now living longe
r than ever. Wrinkles are one of the most visible and readily apparent signs of aging. There is a lot of interest in aging skin care because people want to slow down the visible effects of their age.

Damage to the proteins in the skin that are responsible for its elasticity causes wrinkles. Elastin is the protein in the skin that is primarily responsible for its elasticity. Like any other protein, elastin is subject to damage from free radicals and UV radiation. Free radicals do a lot of damage in the long run, and people use aging skin care to counter their effects. The name ?free radical? refers to any number of oxygen molecules that have been split and become very reactive.

These molecules will damage any proteins or DNA molecules that they crash into before being absorbed. Skin cancers may result from DNA damage, while wrinkles are the common product of protein damage. Fortunately, experts have found that substances called antioxidants can absorb these
harmful free radicals. This means that any aging skin care that involves the use of antioxidants will likely be effective.

These antioxidants can be applied directly to the skin in the form of a cream or moisturizer. Vitamins C and E, and the compound Alpha Hydroxy Acid (AHA) are some common examples of antioxidants. These compounds will not reverse wrinkles, but will help slowdown their onset. Maintaining a diet that is high in antioxidants is important for combating the signs of aging. Fruits, berries, and dark colored vegetables are all important in aging skin care because they are high in antioxidants.

Reducing the amount of free radicals you introduce into your body can be more important than using antioxidants. For instance, smoking essentially soaks your body in an assortment of free radicals. This means that quitting smoking is a good step towards an effective aging skin care.
